Richie Hawtin has reportedly bought an entire new wardrobe after watching the American prison drama Orange is the New Black.
Hawtin, best known for wearing black, has apparently been “binge watching” the Netflix exclusive since returning to his Berlin base from Ibiza earlier this month.
“Richie must have watched the three series of Orange is the New Black at least twelve or thirteen times since he’s been back from Ibiza,” revealed Otto Adler, Hawtin’s European booking agent. “He really likes the lesbian scenes and the brightly coloured fashion. I haven’t seen him obsess over something like this since the first time he visited a Japanese sake bar.”
“Richie’s very fashion conscious and he likes to work with popular culture to keep his image on point,” continued Mr. Adler. “So he’s decided to go with the opinion of the show and ditch his black style for a new brighter, orange look. It’s going to take a bit of getting used to, he got refused entry to Berghain last weekend for showing up in an orange boiler suit, but he’s hoping it will catch on in the techno scene soon enough.”
“He’s really serious about finding the best orange fashion the world has to offer,” the source went on. “He’s already booked flights to Holland and Northern Ireland, which are basically the London and Paris of orange fashion in Europe, to see what all the latest cuts and trends are. It’s a very exciting time for him.”
“What we’re looking at is a complete brand overhaul,” claimed Adler. “He’s talking about changing the name of ENTER to OITNB, he wants to create a new musical project, to replace Plastikman, called Inmate 247365 and he’s looking at buying property in Connecticut, which he plans on remodeling in the style of FCI Danbury, the prison where the drama is set.”
According to sources close to Hawtin, the DJ is so captivated with Orange is the New Black he is considering moving to America, having gender transformation surgery and taking up a life a crime in an attempt to completely immerse himself in women’s prison culture.
