Belgian house DJ and producer The Magician is set to cut his DJ fee in half in a bid to improve his stage show and secure more booking throughout 2016.
Matt Harper, the DJ’s agent, claimed the fee The Magician receives for each performance will stay the same, however, in true magician style, at the end of the night the DJ, real name Stephen Fasano, will cut his cheque in half and then miraculously put it perfectly back together.
“It’s really just a way for Stephen to show off a couple of tricks he’s learned over the last few weeks,” confirmed Harper. “He’s had a lifelong obsession with magic, hence the name, and his parents bought him a Penn and Teller magic kit for Christmas, he’s been practicing solidly ever since and he’s actually getting quite good.”
According to industry sources, The Magician’s extra curricular activities have been well received and have already yielded a number of high profile rewards, including a headlining slot at the Together presents Potion takeover in London’s Ministry of Sound on Saturday 20 February.
Sources within the club claim to have been “completely blown away” by Fasano’s newly honed magical talent.
“He’s proper magic that fella,” claimed Ministry’s creative director Wendy Haus. “I saw him pull a £2 coin out of Steve, one of our intern’s, ear. It was amazing, I’ve seen Steve use the vending machine before and there’s no way he keeps his change inside his head so I don’t know where the money came from, it must have been magic. It’s going to be such a good night when The Magician plays here later this month.”
Rumours circulating within the industry suggest that Fasano and Chris Lorenzo, who is also booked to play in Ministry of Sound on the same night, are set to do a back to back magic show in the Box, which will see Lorenzo pull fully produced Hannah Wants tracks out of a top hat.
