Black Light Dinner Party
Brooklyn based electronic pop quartet Black Light Dinner Party are set to release their debut album, Sons and Lovers, this coming autumn and here at wunderground we’re pretty excited. We first heard of these guys as a result of the tragic yet heart warming story that the collection of songs were written as a gift for band member Jack Cote’s mother who was dying from cancer at the time of writing. It’s one of those genesis myths that can circulate around bands at this stage of their career but as far as they go it’s a lot more heartwarming than similar stories surrounding up and coming bands – usually concerning drug use or sexual shenanigans or both. Which isn’t a bad thing and is heartily condoned – we want our rock stars to be rock stars after all but if they can pluck at our emotions by maturely and affectingly dealing with the death of a loved one through their music then that’s encouraged too…
They also make a damn good video! Reminds me of Adventure Time.
Halves
Check out the second album from Irish trio, Halves; a stunning, experimental fusion of electronica and post rock. Thrilling and in places difficult it’s nevertheless a super effort from a band on the up.
Keep Shelly In Athens
Keep Shelly In Athens are a chillwave duo from Athens (surprise) that make beautiful, electronic pop along the lines of M83, Young Wonder and Air. I discovered these after they appeared on the beautiful Heart from Mmoths’ EP. They were further cemented into my consciousness as an act to watch in the same way that M83 were – by appearing on Sasha’s Involver series – and as a result I have been giving them a lot of air play since.
