BBC Announce Plans For An Essential Mix Themed TV Show

BBC bosses have today announced plans for a new drama series, called Bpm, that will be based around the profitable EDM phenomenon that is currently sweeping the globe.

Max Gladstone, head of drama, said the show will be loosely based around the extremely popular Essential Mix series which has been successfully running, on BBC Radio 1, for the last twenty years. “We’ve been mulling over the idea of some sort of show based on the dance music industry, or a DJ, for years now but every time we proposed something  we were shot down on the basis that it was too underground to appeal to the wider audience,” explained Mr. Gladstone. “These things work in peaks and troughs so what’s popular one year wont necessarily be popular the next and vice versa. It was pirates a couple of years ago, then it was vampires and now it’s DJs, they’re really hot right now and we’ve been given the green light to go ahead and start production,” continued the TV executive.

The cast for the show, set in London and due to be filmed later this year, has already been selected, with Danny Dyer chosen to take on the lead role. The actor told us of his excitement for the up coming show, “It’s gonna be a really challenging role for me, I’m playing a cheeky cockney DJ so I’ll really be pushing myself acting wise. I play Matt Briggs, a radio show presenter on BBC radio 1, by day and an anonymous crime fighting vigilante by night, he’s a bit of a maverick and get’s propa nawty on a regular basis. It’s a real throw back to classics like Murder She Wrote and Dial M for Murder. I’ve always fancied myself as a bit of a DJ and this is a great opportunity for me to showcase my DJing skills and prove that I’m more than just a one dimensional, typecast, over exaggerated, caricature of myself.  I’m really excited to be part of this project,” exclaimed Mr. Dyer.

Alice Gannon, a producer in BBC’s drama department, spoke of the proposed show, “We have been working on the script for Bpm for a while now. We’re trying  to keep with the traditional format for a crime drama but at the same time we want it to have a totally unique element. We’re trying to make it as dark as possible and we’ll be dealing with issues that are really relevant in modern London but the Pièce de résistance is that every hour long episode is going to have a fifteen minute mini mix by Danny in the middle of it, it’s going to be totally ground breaking television.”
