English DJ Paul Oakenfold is set to put his career on hold in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for counting to one million.
Oakenfold, who has enjoyed an extremely successful career as a Dj and producer, which has spanned more than three decades, is said to have become bored with the current state of the music industry. “I’ve been playing the decks for so long now that it has become a chore for me. There is very little around that inspires me these days, I just need a little break, something else to concentrate on and give myself a little time out before I lose my passion for music all together,” explained the disillusioned star.
“Counting is something I’ve always really enjoyed, ever since I was a boy I’ve loved counting things and seeing how quick I can count, it’s got me through some lonely times on tour I’m telling you! Early in my career I used to ask to be paid in pennies and I’d sit on the tour bus for hours counting and recounting. My friends even used to call me Rainman,” joked the DJ.
The current world record for counting to one million is held by Jeremy Harper from Brimingham, Alabama. The American man set the record after spending just under three months counting, for sixteen hours a day, in 2007.
Oakenfold, pictured above wearing the latest count verifying head gear, plans on reaching one million in a much quicker time than Mr. Harper, “Well no disrespect to the man but he’s a bit of an amature. I plan on totally smashing his record to pieces. I’m aiming for two months and I may even go as far as one million one hundred thousand. I’ve been in training for this all my life and I’m ready go,” he oozed with confidence.
Mr. Oakenfold has set a September start date for his record attempt, which fans will be able to follow live on his official website.
The DJ will also be using the count to raise money for the National Association of Little Boys Who Can’t Count Proper.
