Maya Jane Coles Speaks Of Her ‘Secret Love’

English DJ Maya Jane Coles has spoken for the first time about her ‘secret love’ for knitting.

The London native, who has been making waves within the electronic music industry since she first came to light with her debut release on Dogmatik Records in 2008, has said there’s no better way to relax than sitting down with a pair of needles for a couple of hours knitting.

Coles spoke of her hobby, “People think being an international DJ is all about traveling the globe, playing at the worlds best clubs and partying like there’s no tomorrow but that novelty wears off very quickly. It’s important to find something else to occupy your mind when you’re touring, for me that was knitting, I can’t get enough of it, it’s my secret love,” she explained while looking over a half knit scarf.

“I’m a bit like a heroin addict really, I bring my needles everywhere with me, only instead of being addicted to a drug I’m addicted to making scarfs, jumpers and doilies,” she continued, “You’d be really surprised by the hobbies some of the other DJs have. Eric Morillo collects old sets of false teeth, Carl Cox writes erotic novels and Skrillex likes to sacrifice kittens to Valzar the Amazonian Moon God, we really are a strange bunch,” she said gingerly.

“I tried to set up a DJs only stitch and bitch club a couple of months ago. I wanted to share the wonder of knitting with some of my DJ friends. It didn’t really work because only David Guetta showed up. It was kind of fun at first but that guy can be really annoying, he never stops bitching so I had to cancel it,” she said sternly.

Coles hopes to open a boutique knitting parlor, in London’s trendy Putney area, where customers will be able to buy everything from knitted club wear to knitted record sleeves and she has even approached Pioneer about knitting a set of limited edition CDJs.
