Ronald McDonald, the face of global fast food chain McDonald’s, has accused BBC Radio 1 DJ Annie Mac of identity theft.
According to Mr McDonald’s legal representative, Frank Oliver, the DJ, real name Annie MacManus, has been profiting from Mr McDonald’s image since taking on her first broadcasting role in 2004.
“There are a couple of key elements to take into account with my clients allegations,” explained Mr Oliver to Wunderground earlier. “First of all, it is a well known fact that McDonald’s, and therefore my client, own the monopoly on the ‘Mc’ abbreviation. While Ms MacManus is using a slightly different spelling, it is still incredibly similar. Every time I hear someone say the name ‘Annie Mac’ I instantly presume they’re saying ‘Any Mc?’ and think they’re asking if I have any McDonald’s.”
“If there’s one thing the recent Hannah Wants debacle has taught us it’s that things don’t have to be exactly the same to be a total rip off and it’s clear that Ms MacManus’s abbreviation is a blatant copy of my client’s version,” continued Mr Oliver. “And that’s just the tip of the iceberg, there are a number of other similarities.”
“Mr McDonald is a clown, and as you all know clowns are entertainers, just like Ms MacManus. Isn’t that convenient?” he accusingly claimed. “Then we have the most striking resemblance of all, their hair. It’s practically identical. If you look at Ms MacManus’s silhouette it is almost indistinguishable from my client’s.”
While no official action has taken place yet, it is believed that Mr McDonald’s legal team are about to launch a multi million pound lawsuit against Ms MacManus.
Wunderground asked the DJ for her opinion on Mr McDonald’s accusations, she said, “I don’t care, Ronald McDonald can go away and shite. The American prick! My curls are natural, the state of his bonce, he makes Donald Trump look like Fabio for fuck’s sake.”
