The US club industry, recently valued at over $1 billion, is still struggling to afford good taste, it has emerged.
Despite being one of the fastest growing markets for club culture, most observers have recognised that the big US nightclubs are still coming up short when it comes to affording good taste.
“They might be worth a billion dollars but for some reason they still haven’t been able to buy decent taste,” claimed US clubbing expert Pete Long. “Some of the big Vegas clubs will have gold plated revolving dancefloors on which pole dancers cavort in diamond bikinis and drink $2,000 bottles of champagne while scrimping completely on taste and reserve.”
“They never seem to book decent DJs or promote credible music, it’s usually just the most gaudy and crass sounding popular tripe that’ll attract people who prefer to spend money to dancing,” he added.
US clubs, claims Long, are now so expensive and gaudy that they are actually offensive to the idea of nightclubs being cultural centres where people from all over can meet and share a love for good music and dancing.
“Unless you’ve the monthly earnings of a small country or have a tiger as a pet or have exceptional tits then you probably won’t even be able to get into these clubs,” he explained. “Which is a shame because there’s a lot of potential for them to be legitimate cultural spots like famous clubs Studio 54 or Berghain instead of just being money-focused bro-pits.”
