Dutch EDM star Dash Berlin has today decided to change his name to Dash Mexico City in light of the fact that the Mexican capital is nominally where all his Facebook fans are based.
“Of course Dash would like to be associated with Berlin, it’s a city that is synonymous with dance music innovation and quality,” declared Dash’s manager, “whereas Mexico City brings to mind images of massive urban sprawl, drug wars and kidnappings – all of which are not typically endearing subjects.”
“But the simple fact is that Mexico City is where his fans are based, according to the likes on Facebook, so the name change needs to reflect that,” he continued. “Dash just wants to be closer to his fans in Mexico City that totally exist.”
“If Berlin was the city where he was held in highest regard and had the most number of fans then he could keep the name but for some reason, one we can’t figure out, the techno scene hasn’t really embraced Dash’s brand of noise,” explained the manager.
Other reports regarding the name change have suggested that the city of Berlin itself, namely its techno scene, were also unhappy with Dash using the name as his music, brash EDM pop-trance-slurry, has no relevance to the genre for which the city is renowned.
“If he’s going to name himself after a city then maybe it should be something more appropriate to the music he purveys like Dash Piss or Dash Poo, which are both coincidentally places located in northern Spain,” suggested one Berliner. “Or maybe just forgo the city angle altogether and name himself something in accordance with his music like Dash Derivative Electro-Trance Pop With Emotionally Manipulative Vocals. Something snappy like that.”
Dash’s manager insisted that his client was adamant that he just wanted to be closer to his fans in Mexico City and that from now his stage name will remain Dash Mexico City unless another city comes along with a higher proportion of fans.
“As soon as another city beats Mexico City for the highest number of Dash fans per capita then naturally we’ll make the switch because,” concluded the manager forcefully, “as I said earlier, we’re only changing the name because Mexico City is where Dash’s fans definitely, definitely are and we’re not just changing the name to disguise the fact that Dash has paid for fake likes on Facebook, most of which happen to originate in Mexico City.”
Dash Mexico City is expected to begin a world tour this coming autumn that will see him perform in cities around the world though unfortunately, due to lack of interest, Mexico City may not feature on the tour itinerary.
