Reports that Burning Man had been shut down due to heavy rain have been proved false after news emerged that the festival became water logged after taking the ice bucket challenge.
Festival goers have been forced to wait indefinitely for entry to the site, situated in the Nevada Desert, as organisers wait for the water from the ice bucket challenge to dry up.
Sunbeam Flowerpot, a festival ticket holder and self described techpunk-hippy, has been forced to spend the last two nights in a Wal-Mart parking lot, she spoke to Wunderground earlier, “This is so not cool man, I’ve been sitting in this damn parking lot for two days now.”
“People around here are total narks man. I was taking some peyote yesterday and I decided it’d be cool to go for a naked stroll around the parking lot,” explained Sunbeam. “But as soon as I got out of my RV people were like ‘hey you’re naked’ and ‘get back in your RV there’s kids around here’. I was lucky not to get arrested.”
“Plus you totally can’t barter with the folks in Wal-Mart,” continued the Burner. “I tried to buy some beer yesterday only instead of money I had some daisy chains. The manager just laughed in my face and told me to get lost. I don’t know what his problem was but he was totally uncool.”
Event promoters have indicated that they hope to have the site ready for the festival to begin within the next twenty four hours. Although, they are warning ticket holders that the amount of water needed for an entire festival to take the ice bucket challenge is “significant” and could result in the site being closed for “at least another day or two”.
Burning Man is believed to have been challenged to the ice bucket challenge by a number of other festivals including Glastonbury and Ireland’s Castlepalooza festival, both of whom suffered with severe surface water problems earlier in the summer after taking the challenge.
Burning Man went on to nominate this weekend’s Electric Picnic festival in Ireland and England’s Bestival, which takes place the following weekend. Organisers are warning anyone who plans on attending these festivals to be prepared for extremely wet conditions as the respective festivals prepare to take the challenge.
