Archaeologist Uncovers Ancient Piece Of DJing Equipment

Archaeologists working in North America have today uncovered an artifact which they believe may have been used as an ancient piece of DJing equipment.

The discovery, made in a back garden in Detroit, is believed to have originated as far back as 1979 and according to attending archaeologists may have been first created by the ancient African-American disco culture of that period.

Dr. Henry “Illinois” Smith Jr., the lead archaeologist on the team that uncovered the priceless piece which he has tentatively called a ‘turntable’, was keen to tell Wunderground reports of the “massive historical significance” of a find like this and insisted that “it belongs in a museum” rather than in the hands of a private collector.

“We think we may have discovered the long rumoured ‘turntable’ – which it is believed was used by ancient DJs to play music without the use of CDs or USBs,” explained the doctor. “It’s perhaps the most important DJing discovery ever made, akin to the first ever scratch, or four deck set.”

“We can confidently date this find to the late-disco, early hip-hop era,” explained Dr. Smith pointing to some other items which were found in the barrow such as a disco ball, Kangol hats and Adidas tracksuits. “The piece has distinctive markings along the side which say ‘Technics’ in late 20th century English – a term which we think may refer to the god or gods of the DJs who made and used this turntable.”

DJing on a turntable, explained Dr. Smith, is an ancient practice believed to have died out completely at the start of the century but some claim that there are turntable users still out there living in secret.

“While we’ll have to do more research on exactly how the piece works we think it might have something to do with an item we found with the piece,” continued Dr. Smith. “It looks like some kind of ancient CD except it is larger, shiny and black like pitch with countless little concentric grooves on it. It’s like nothing I’ve ever seen before but it had a white label around the inner section that may have once contained writing – we just can’t be sure.”

Dr. Smith ended the interview at this point, insisting that the artifact wasn’t safe and that other parties were attempting to steal the turntable – which he claims is prophesised to grant everlasting life to those who prove themselves worthy by mastering its mysterious ways.

Actually, only one on each side, in most cases.
