In shocking news from the EDM industry, Dimitri Vegas has revealed that Like Mike, his supposed brother, is in fact an extremely lifelike ventriloquist’s dummy.
The revelation comes just days after the Belgian duo claimed first place in this year’s DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll and is already being described as the biggest dupe in the history of music.
Dimitri Vegas, real name Dimitri Thivaios, made the startling announcement after calling a press conference on Monday afternoon. “I’d like to take this opportunity to announce to the world that Like Mike, my “brother”, is actually a ventriloquist’s dummy,” he claimed in front of a room full of shocked journalists.
“In 2009 I set about on a five year mission to fool the planet into thinking that my dummy and I were world class DJs and to pick up the number one spot on the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll,” continued Dimitri. “When in reality I’m little more than a humble street performer with an incredibly lifelike doll.”
“The original idea behind the scheme was to get rich quick without making any effort, like a lotto winner or Calvin Harris,” explained Dimitri who actually seems like a much nicer person when he’s openly admitting to being a fraud. “But after spending a bit of time in the EDM industry I’d rather expose the whole thing as the fake and fickle animal that it is than get rich myself. That’s why I’ve decide to come clean now.”
“And to be honest I’m becoming a bit tired of the whole charade. There’s something a little disturbing about having your arm elbow deep in a perfectly human-like dummy of a man who’s supposed to be your brother’s ass every time you go out in public.”
“The whole thing was fake,” admitted Dimitri. “The tracks we released were ghost written. The sets we played were pre-recorded. Even the clothes we wore on stage were cheap internet knock offs,” he continued honestly.
“One time we went back to back with Steve Aoki and even he was fake, we just taped a balloon, with a shitty looking beard drawn onto it, to a sweeping brush handle and nobody knew the difference.”
