Scottish EDM moneymaker, Calvin ‘Bland’ Harris, has today described how to make the in-no-way-based-on-money switch from commercial EDM to commercial deep house, he elected to include the word “deep” in the title of his new single so “people would know right away what genre it was”.
Speaking from the studio where he is working on the grimly inevitable collaboration with current arm candy Taylor Swift, Calvin reasoned that his fanbase might not be clever enough to make the switch in genre with him.
“Sometimes you’ve got to spell it out for people so they aren’t overawed or mystified by what they’re listening to,” explained Calvin. “That’s why I titled that track Summer, cause it was about the summer, or my album Ready for the Weekend being about going out on the weekend. It’s why I always use drops in my songs, just so people know where and when to dance.”
Calvin, seeing big room electro-house for the sinking ship it is, will include several “deep house” cuts on his upcoming album which experts have predicted “will make money and win awards while still retaining Calvin’s commitment to spurn artistic integrity or innovation”.
“The album is basically a deep house album, I’ve always been inspired by the genre since Disclosure created it two years ago,” gushed Harris while in the middle of a tricep dip to maintain the physique that has made him “50% more profitable with women aged 18-35. “Big room for me is dead, the same way quirky electro-pop died for me some years ago when that stopped being the top earning genre.”
The track, entitled How Deep Is Your Love, borrows on the commercial “deep house” aesthetic made popular in the last two years by crossover acts like Disclosure, Gorgon City and Sigma.
