DJ and producer Deadmau5 has reacted angrily to reports that Dutch DJ Armin Van Buuren is set to become the first DJ into space when he launches towards the stars in 2014 through commercial space travel company, SXC.
An excited Van Buuren announced, ‘For every DJ, it’s a dream to travel 3.5 times faster than their own sound! And then that deafening silence at 100 kilometers high. I can’t wait. I guess a 200 BPM heart rate is likely.’
Deadmau5 took to Twitter to express his misgivings about the prospect of Buuren going to space, ‘Pfffft, as if the European Space Agency could get him into space. They probably don’t even know how to plug in a Pioneer CDJ.’
‘I’m a fucking EDM superstar, I’ve played every major club and festival on the planet. I’ve played Space: Ibiza so now I want to play Space: Space.’
It emerged that Deadmau5 has petitioned NASA to help him in his bid to outdo Van Buuren. ‘Hopefully with the backing of my team at NASA I’ll get to play my unique brand of bland trance-house to any aliens I meet,’ enthused the Canadian producer.
The producer went on to describe his training regime, ‘I’ve been preparing to explore space my whole life, moonwalking, practicing light sabre moves, you name it.’
‘All my tracks have a breakdown that is directly inspired by the backwards countdown from ten at space launches. I wear a helmet on stage for Christ’s sake.’
When told of reports of Deadmau5’s challenge, a laid back Van Buuren responded, ‘well it’s funny that he says that, I think you need to press more buttons than he’s used to to fly a space ship’, quipped a relaxed Van Buuren.
