Dutch DJ Afrojack has cancelled tonight’s scheduled show in the Ogden Theatre, Denver, due to superstitious circumstances.
The DJ made the announcement this morning through his official Facebook page. “Sorry guys but there is absolutely no way I can play the show in Denver tonight. I really hope you guys aren’t too disappointed and I promise I’ll be back real soon to make up for it.”
Nick van de Wall (Afrojack) is known for his superstitious tendencies and performs a long list of rituals before every show, which include rubbing a rabbit’s foot, drinking a battle of of Babycham, saying ten Hail Marys and wearing Hello Kitty underpants. It is also rumoured that he has sacked his agent as a direct result of the Friday 13th booking.
A source close to the DJ spoke of the incident, “Nick is totally fuming, he usually doesn’t even get out of bed when the 13th falls on a Friday so for him to be scheduled to play a gig was just totally crazy.”
“The last couple of weeks have been really bad for him, he seen a black cat last week and the week before that he broke a mirror. The poor guy’s nerves are shot. I don’t believe in any of that superstitious nonsense but Nick is a little bit special, he takes that stuff so seriously! I remember one time when we were kids he cried for a week because he was forced to walk under a ladder, it’s actually quite hilarious,” he joked.
Afrojack’s superstition is believed to date back to his childhood in Spijkenisse, Netherlands. He spoke on the subject in an interview earlier this year, “When I was a kid I used to have a real cruel streak in me and I really enjoyed taking it out on spiders. I would catch them and pull their legs off or burn them with a magnifying glass, things like that, I thought it was great fun at the time. Then one day in school, after I had killed a lot of spiders at lunch, I suddenly wet myself. I didn’t even feel like I needed to go, it just happened. I was so embarrassed!” he explained.
“This happened to me two or three times a week over the next couple of years, all the other kids called me Pissy Pants Nick. I was hardly able to leave my house. I’d just stay in all day and kill spiders to keep myself entertained and the pants wetting kept on happening. Then one day my grandmother seen me toasting a spider on the stove and she said ‘Nick you stupid little boy don’t you know killing spiders brings you bad luck?’ From that day on I stopped killing spiders and I’ve only wet my pants two or three times a year since. The numbers speak for themselves,” he claimed.
The Ogden theater have promised to fully refund all ticket holders for tonight show and have assured fans that Afrojack will be back on the soonest possible date.
