Historic mix series, Global Underground, have announced plans to rejuvenate the progressive house scene by having John Digweed mix the “deepest and most underground” city series album to date.
The announcement comes as music to the ears of Global Underground fans who have been eagerly awaiting the fortieth edition of the series since Dave Seaman’s Lithuania release in September 2010. The destination for the latest mix has been confirmed as the fictional underground City of Zion, featured in the Matrix movies.
Michael Rinser, a spokesperson for Global Underground, explained the announcement, “This album has been a long time coming, there were times when we thought it would never happen but we’re delighted to announce it today, we’ve put together a really strong team for its production and we’re confident that number forty will be the best release yet.”
“We’re really sick of what’s passing for progressive house these days so we decided that we needed to make this mix really special so that we could kick a bit of life back into the old donkey,” he offered, “and we’re sure that with this unique location we’re going to make the deepest and most underground album to date.”
“John Digweed was the obvious choice for this mix, given that Zion is approximately two hundred miles beneath the Earth’s surface and we’re going to have to dig our way down into it,” he continued. “Knowing that we have someone with such extensive experience of working with Bedrock is a real bonus for us,” added Mr. Rinser.
“Obviously you can’t just show up at Zion ‘willy nilly,'” he said while making quotation marks with his hands, “so we’ve recruited the finest actor of his own imagination, Keanu Reeves, to accompany John down there. They’ll spend a couple of nights in Zion, John will play a gig in the Temple and then he’ll make the album based on the emotions, sound and energy of the gig and the city itself.”
“We’re really hoping that Jada Pinkett Smith doesn’t attend,” he said enthusiastically.
Keanu Reeves, also spoke about the upcoming album earlier this week, “Woow! This album is gonna be like totally awesome, we’re going to have such an excellent adventure,” he said before realising he was taking on the persona of his other most well known character. “What I believe I meant to say was that I believe there is an album that can save progressive house and I believe that this album is the one,” he added with all the emotion of a stick.
The album, tentatively titled GU: Actually Under The Ground, is scheduled for release next summer.
