Above & Beyond Rallying DJs For War Against Drugs
This week has seen a number of famous faces from the EDM community speaking out against the use of drugs following the tragic deaths of two people at last weekends Electric Zoo Festival in New York.
English three piece Above & Beyond are the latest act to throw in their two cents, although they seem to be taking a much harder line than many of their counterparts.
Band member Jono Grant took to Twitter this morning, “Are you willing to go Above & Beyond your call of duty to rid EDM of drugs? We are! We’re sick of having our name associated with things like ‘Mandy’ and ‘XTC’ We’re calling all DJs to join our war on drugs!”
Fellow band member Tony McGuinness also used the social media site to declare his intentions,”Every drug in the world should know we’re coming to get you, no drug is safe, not even weed! If you’re a DJ and you want to join us get in touch, if we stand together no drug will elude us.”
Paavo Siljamaki, the third member of the band has yet to comment, although sources close to him have stated that he’s ‘fond of a smoke’ so his intentions are not yet clear.
A video showing a number of bags containing white powder(believed to be drugs) being held in a rabbit cage and beside an AK47 was also posted on the groups official Facebook page. It was removed shortly afterwards and replaced by pictures of empty bags riddled with bullet holes. Although we can not be sure exactly what happened to these drugs it is safe to assume they were killed.
Jono Grant had this to say about their deceleration of war, “Ronald Regan declared a war on drugs back in the 80’s and were sick of sitting by and watching the drugs win, they don’t even have guns or brains or anything, how hard can it be to beat them?,” asked an obviously confused Mr. Grant, “We’re sick of hearing ‘sociologists’ saying education is the way to beat drugs. We say, fuck that! We’ll beat them with bombs and guns. It’s time to put drugs to bed for once and for all!”
David Guetta has also declaired his intent to join forces with the English producers in their war against drugs, “Yeah I’m totally with the guys on this one, if we don’t get rid of drugs soon they’ll probably learn how to DJ and take our spots in the DJMag Top 100.”
