Swedish DJ, Alesso, is finding it hard to mask his utter contempt for playing cities he considers smaller and less prestigious in a series of statements regarding his upcoming shows in the Far East.
“Sure I’m excited to be playing Jakarta, I probably won’t make as much money as I would in Europe but I’m still getting a lot money for doing very little, but hey look, monetary gain isn’t the most important thing. It’s also about visiting exotic locations for free,” admitted Alesso to the press. “It does help that I’ve been flown here at no expense to myself and been handsomely rewarded to play because I’d never visit the place by choice.”
“Like most DJ’s I hate flying but when you touch down on the runway in a city like Jakarta,” he added, “you just can’t wait to get back in the air.”
“I’ve played gigs in some of the most exotic cities in the world like New York, Berlin, and Birmingham,” he continued, “and I really think that Jakarta, whilst it’s not up there with those bastions of dance music, New York and Berlin, it’s at least as good as, if not better than, Birmingham.”
Alesso went on to confirm that while he’s not familiar with the city he’d do his best to slog through the set. “Could I point Jakarta out on a map?” he queried. “No, I probably couldn’t. Am I even able to spell Jakarta? Sure I could, but I’m just choosing not to.”
“At the end of the day though I’m excited to be playing here. I respect the Jakartan people and am excited to play for their famously wild crowds,” he continued. “I’m not too keen on the food and accommodation, but I’m sure once the meals aren’t utter dogshit and my hotel room hasn’t been pissed in too recently, then I can make my stay at least tolerable,” he enthused.
Alesso concluded by saying he was hoping to get these shows under his belt and out of the way so he can get back to playing in North America and Europe because “those shows are so huge that you don’t have to engage with the great unwashed and it’s where the most money can be made.”
