Swedish producer Axwell is to follow in the footsteps of Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers by composing the score for an original motion picture.
French duo Daft Punk enjoyed success in 2010 when they composed the score to Disney’s sci-fi blockbuster Tron Legacy, while The Chemical Brothers received similar accolades for their involvement with the 2011 box office hit Hanna. It now seems that Axwell will be the latest electronic music producer to follow in this trend after Nickelodeon confirmed that he is to compose the score for their upcoming Peppa Pig movie. Axwell, a keen animal impersonator, is also set to star as a horse, pig and monkey in the eagerly awaited children’s movie.
We caught up with the former Swedish House Mafia member to talk about the film, “I’m really excited to be part of this Peppa Pig project, I’ve been a massive fan since it first aired back in 2004, I’d say that I’ve probably seen every episode at least five times, I even have Peppa Pig bed sheets and curtains in my bedroom!”
“I have worked on some small Swedish TV shows in the past but this will be my first attempt at film, it’s quite daunting really, especially considering the fact that I’m going to be working with some of my heroes. Peppa Pig has played a very important role in my life, it has gotten me through some very tough times and has practically been my moral compass since I first discovered it on Nick Junior. I’m not like normal men, I don’t like sport or cars or any of that nonsense, give me children’s cartoons any day of the week,” confessed the Scandinavian superstar.
“I’ve already started work on the score, it’s got some really organic sounds and a very farmyard felling. It’s probably some of the best work I’ve ever done,” he added.
The movie, titled Peppa Pig: The Awkward Teenage Years, is set for a Summer 2014 release.
