Having recently been at the center of what can only be described as a social media shitstorm, Hannah Wants yesterday issued a rather unapologetic apology after blatantly ripping off Joy Orbison & Boddika’s Mercy (Boodika VIP).
However, in a Wunderground excluive, we can now reveal that Chris Lorenzo has issued a second, superior sounding and all around better written Hannah Wants apology. It reads;
“I, Hannah Wants, would just like to say that I am whole heartedly sorry that I completely ripped off Joy O & Boddika’s Mercy (VIP). I really liked this song and I saw how crazy crowds went for it so I just wanted to see them having a similar reaction to something I had made.
I’ve taken the track down and I promise it will never see the light of day again. I just really hope that Joy O, Boddika, my label and my fans will be able to forgive me for this silly mistake. I’m new to this whole music production thing and I promise I’ll never do it again.”
Wunderground spoke to Chris Lorenzo, “Hannah’s all right, honestly, you can see in that apology I wrote for her that she’s really sorry. I’m actually quite surprised that her management let her issue that other statement because usually they don’t allow anything she writes herself to be released.”
“She’s just not really sure how copywriting laws, or anything in the music industry, works. She thought you had to physically sample something to rip it off but she’s learned her lesson now and hopefully everyone will forgive her. She’s a really good DJ, I’ve heard her beat match.”
While it is not yet clear how, if at all, Lorenzo’s apology will effect the Hannah Wants debacle, one thing that is clear is that Hannah is likely to be left wanting for credibility in the future.
