Swedish house duo Dada Life have announced plans to become the first ever EDM duo to adopt a child.
Despite not being a same sex couple, the pair, made up of Olle Corneer and Stefan Engblom, think they would make excellent fathers and believe that their celebrity status should help to ease the adoption process.
Mr. Corneer explained the thinking behind the idea, “It’s always been part of the overall plan for Dada Life to one day have a baby of our own. We’ve had a strategy to help us achieve our ultimate goal, which is to reach the number one spot on the DJ Mag Top 100 list and it’s been working well so far. We’ve gone from eighty ninth in 2010, to thirty eighth in 2011 and twenty fourth in 2012. We’ve had a bit of a slip in 2013 and unfortunately fallen back down the list a little but we really believe that adopting a child is the X factor that will push us further towards the top of the list in 2014,” he said while high-fiving his band mate.
When asked if they understood the implications that same sex couples encounter when trying to adopt a child, Mr. Engblom responded, “We do understand but we’re not a couple, we’re celebrities. It’s not like we actually want to raise this child, it’s more of a marketing tactic. Sure it’ll have a good life because we’re super rich but the majority of the parenting will be done by a team of highly skilled nannies. I mean can you actually imagine me or Olle touching a dirty diaper? I don’t think so,” he proclaimed as he burst into fits of laughter.
“Yeah Stefan’s right, diapers and feeding and playtime are more mama life things,” he giggled with the chauvinistic overtones of a 1920’s dock worker. “We’ll be using the child in a much more corporate way. We’ll bring it to gigs and festivals and hold it up in front of the crowd when we’re about to drop the base. It’s face will be used for branding and we may even sample it’s baby noises and use them in our tunes,” continued Mr. Corneer, “it’s just savvy business tactics.”
“Eventually, when it’s old enough, we’ll start to pass on our knowledge of EDM and it too can be a superstar DJ. It will probably be one of the luckiest children in the world. Instead of wasting time playing with other kids it will be fully submerged in EDM culture, building blocks will be replaced by CDJs and creche time will be replaced with studio time. And most importantly we’ll have someone we can trust to carry on our legacy. Most kids would kill to have these kind of opportunities forced upon them,” stated Mr. Engblom matter of factly.
Mr. Engblom and Mr. Corneer have already began the process of adoption and hope to have all legal documents in place by the end of summer 2014 to coincide with the announcement of the DJ Mag Top 100 list.
