DJ Mag have announced plans to revamp their Top 100 DJs poll by introducing a new Tops Off point system that will see DJs awarded ranking points for people who take their tops off during their shows.
The voting format of the poll has come under much scrutiny recently with many people believing the poll is more of a popularity contest than an accurate reflection of the world’s top DJs. The new format, set to be introduced in 2015, will see the winner decided by a combination of votes and points awarded by the Tops Off system.
Mike McGee, a spokesperson for DJ Mag spoke about the impending change, “We’ve been working on ways to freshen up the Top 100 DJs poll for quite a while now, the last thing we want is for the poll to become stale and boring so we’re hoping the new Tops Off points system will really freshen the competition up.”
“The biggest problem with the poll for us was that people could vote for their favourite DJs without ever having seen them play,” continued Mr. McGee. “We’re obviously going to keep the voting system in place but now there’ll be the addition of the Tops Off point system which will actually see DJs rewarded for their live performances rather than begging for votes or throwing money at a marketing campaign.”
“You can really tell that a DJ is doing a good job when you see people taking their tops off at a gig,” claimed the DJ Mag spokesperson, “and we want to reward that by awarding the DJs points for every person who peels off their top layer of clothing during their performance. We feel that by combining the Tops Off system and the voting system we’ve come up with the fairest and most accurate way to decide who the world’s best DJ is.”
“DJs will be able to pick three shows from their touring schedule that will be attended by an official DJ Mag chest counter,” explained Mr. McGee. “By using videos and the latest chest recognition technology we’ll be able to come up with an extremely accurate count of the people with their tops off and the DJs will then be awarded the relative number of points.”
“Every guy who takes his top off will see the DJ given one point while every girl who takes her top off will see the DJ awarded five points,” continued McGee. “This is because it’s a lot harder to get a girl to take her top off, unless your on a beach in Spain or have a bag of cocaine, and because boobs are a lot nicer to look at than sweaty pecks.”

I’ve always wondered Diplo’s obsession with getting people to take their tops off at shows, it turns out he got wind of this and was trying to increase his DJ Mag rankings. It all makes sense now!
