DJ Mag’s recently named number one DJ, Hardwell, has vowed that he will not rest on his laurels and that he will continue to push himself despite reaching the summit of the EDM world at the age of twenty five.
Hardwell, speaking today for the first time since the poll’s announcement on Saturday night, explained why a strong work ethic is so important to him, “First and foremost I’d like to take this opportunity to thank my fans, you guys are amazing. Thank you so much for voting for me, I love each and everyone one of your dollars,” said the Dutchman.
“Hard work is very important to me, I like to challenge myself all the time. It’s also how I came up with my name, I like to take hard things and do them well so the name Hardwell just seemed really natural,” he explained. “For example when I was a young boy I used to dream about being a world famous DJ who made music that people would respect and remember but I decided to give that dream up and concentrate on becoming a commercial cheese ball and make a lot of money along the way. That was a hard thing to do and I done it well,” he explained in a defensive tone.
“Or when I decided to give up the last little bit of dignity I had left and shamelessly self promote myself to the top of the DJ Mag poll, that was also hard to do, there were times when I didn’t want to do it but I still done it well,” he continued. “The last forty eight hours have been such a rush. People keep coming up to me and asking, ‘Hardwell what are you going to do now that you’re the greatest DJ on Earth?’ Well this is only the beginning for Hardwell. I’m going to continue finding hard things to do and do them well. I’ve already started doing long division without a calculator, it’s really tough going at the moment but hopefully by the end of the year I’ll be doing it well,” he said confidently.
“Next year I’m going to undertake my toughest challenge yet,” claimed the DJ. “I’ve decided to climb Mount Everest. It’s probably the hardest thing in the world to do so I figure if I can do it well then I can do anything. I have absolutely no experience of mountaineering, I’m hoping there’s a climb function with the equipment so I can just use that to do the tough work while I look marketable on the slopes.”
“I’m also considering letting my fans decide how high I go by having them vote on my website but unlike the DJ Mag Top 100 I’m not sure if buying votes through shameless self promotion can get you to the top of a mountain,” he continued. “Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I’ll probably be releasing some of those EDM tunes and trying to DJ at some point next year too,” he offhandedly concluded.
