Dance music commentators have claimed that DJs who mix using Macbooks rather than PCs are more likely to be considered daring and innovative by fans.
A thread that appeared on popular DJing website, www.suckmydeck.com, entitled “DJs Who Use Macbooks Are So Like Totally More Advanced Than DJs That Mix With PCs” had thousands of contributors, all of whom claimed to prefer seeing a DJ use a Macbook.
One user, “djdave69”, wrote that “music just sounds better coming from a Macbook, simple as”, before also claiming that a set played from a PC is “cheap and uncreative”.
“I remember thinking that DJ Pauly D was just a hack poser DJ but then I saw online that he uses a Macbook, which he has stylishly spray painted in the colour of the Italian flag, and so now I think he’s probably one of the most forward thinking DJs out there.”
“If I see a DJ using a PC I automatically think that they’re unimaginative and probably not actually a proper DJ but rather an out of work accountant or telemarketer,” wrote another user, hipsterjerk247.
“I once saw Four Tet using an iPad on an a bus,” claimed hipsterjerk247. “He was only using it to look up a recipe for chicken soup but it was still one of the most thrilling musical experiences of my life.”
