Dubstep pioneer, Skream, who recently distanced himself from the genre, has shockingly decided to apologise publicly for ever having invented dubstep in light of how the genre has been bastardised by the EDM community.
“I gave up playing dubstep some time ago,” explained a penitent Skream. “I said at the time that it was because I felt the genre had gone as far as it could and I wasn’t inspired by it anymore. But the truth is that I was ashamed to keep playing it knowing what it had become.”
“To see the genre go from a small underground experiment in London to this global behemoth under the banner of EDM was something that I should have been proud of,” continued the producer. “But that’s like being proud of your child if that same child grew up to pollute the hearts and minds of a whole generation of people. Like Hitler. Or The Daily Mail.”
Elaborating on the first surges of creativity that brought dubstep into existence Skream said, “We just wanted to make a genre of music that inspired us and the community we were living in,” he explained. “But looking back now I can see that we were young and foolish trying to play God.”
Skream went on to say that he never imagined dubstep would mutate into the “bastard Chymera that is EDM” and that he would try to limit the damage that he feels he has done by playing other genres of music for the rest of his career.
“I am deeply, deeply sorry for ever having created the genre. If I knew that it would eventually become EDM I would have done the noble thing and chopped my own ears off,” said Skream as he wiped a solitary tear from the corner of his eye. “I wish I could take it all back. But I can’t. That’s something that I’ll have to live with for the rest of my life,” he blubbered.
I have never heard about the existence of a musical vasectomy but he should probably get one, if left to his own devices the next genre of music he comes up with might rival the edm craze in vapidity and boredom.
The funny part is this story is that Skream hasn’t invented Dubstep.
