George Fitzgerald Tops DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs With Normal Sounding Names Poll

London based DJ and producer George Fitzgerald been voted the number one DJ in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs With Normal Sounding Names poll.

Fitzgerald, real name Tappy McDancealot, climbed a staggering fifteen places in this year’s poll to claim the top spot for the very first time beating off stiff competition from Steve Lawler, Alan Fitzpatrick, Jamie Jones and Justin Martin, all of whom made up the top five.

“It’s a great honour and a privilege to be held up beside such big and normal sounding names from the industry,” claimed Fitzgerald during his acceptance speech. “I’d like to thank all of my fans for voting me as their number one DJ with a normal sounding name and I’d also like to thank myself for picking such a normal sounding name to DJ under.”

Fitzgerald can now look forward to playing at some of the world’s most normal nightclubs and electronic music events and the industry standard paychecks to accompany them as a result of his newly won title.

Steve Lawler, who held the top spot on the poll for a whopping nine consecutive years, spoke about the recently announced poll results, “I’m actually quite gutted to have lost my place as the number one DJ with a normal sounding name. I was going for ten in a row this year so the whole thing has been a bit of an anticlimax to be honest.”

“I think it’s because more and more people are spelling Lawlor with an ‘o’ whereas I still spell it the old fashioned way with an ‘e’. I should have changed with the times but I’ve just been so busy lately,” explained Lawler with the power of hindsight. “That’s not taking anything away from George, with a name like that he was always destined to be top of the poll someday.”

“I just hope he can handle the pressure that comes with such an elusive title, it’s not all DJing and name compliments,” warned Lawler, “With great names comes great responsibility. George is going to be a role model for kids with normal sounding names all over the world, I just hope he can cope with the stresses that come with that.”
