In a Wunderground exclusive, Italian techno DJ and label boss Marco Carola has revealed that he was very close to “turning the music off” during his epic twenty-four hour set in 2015.
Carola, who prides himself on his marathon sets, revealed that he definitely hit his limit playing for twenty-four consecutive hours and even considered quitting the music industry altogether halfway through his set.
“It was definitely the toughest thing I’ve ever done,” admitted Carola earlier. “It’s only now, two years later, looking back at it that I can really see how close I was to turning the music off. Thankfully I just got on with things, drank seven litres of Red Bull and finished my set. I owed it to the fans.”
“I won’t be doing any more of those type of sets,” confirmed the DJ. “Not only are they incredibly hard on the DJ, they’re also extremely boring. When I played mine at a festival in Romania people were actually coming there to get some sleep because the campsite was too noisy and lively, a lot of them said they got the best night’s sleep they’d ever had.”
“As a DJ, you really don’t want to be putting your name to boring monotonous shit like that, even if you play minimal techno and the whole vibe is boring and monotonous,” he continued. “To be perfectly honest with you, the whole techno scene, with everyone so serious, barely ever smiling, stroking their chins instead of dancing and identically dressed head to toe in black, is boring enough already without DJs playing twenty-four-hour sets.”
“From now on I’ll go to eight hours, anything after that and it’s music off.”
Annoying has been, DJ Sneak, claims that Marco Carola is “whack” and “full of shit”, after revealing it only takes “about twenty minutes” of one of his own sets to put people to sleep.
