No Actual Fan Of The Ramones Has Ever Worn A Ramones T-Shirt, Claims Study

A study carried out by garment giant Fruit of the Loom has revealed that wearing a t-shirt emblazoned with the logo of influential 70s punk rockers, The Ramones, is solely carried out by people who have never actually listened to the band.
“Our study found that, rather than being an expression of fandom of The Ramones, the t-shirt functioned as a sort of anti-conformist uniform for angsty teens, which is ironic,” confirmed Fruit of the Loom spokesperson Anne Hopkins. “It’s sort of the equivalent of a Che Guevara t-shirt for the apolitical.”
This morning, Wunderground, interviewed several students in their natural habitat, playing pool while going halves on pints in student union bars to get their opinion on the study.
“I like to wear t-shirts of famous bands in lieu of having an opinion about music,” confirmed rollie-smoking art student, Ryan Hawthorn, who it is claimed also has a poster of the movie, Betty Blue, on his dorm room wall despite never having seen it. “The Ramones are great though cause they’re dead and haven’t released music since before I was born.”
Some other iconic band t-shirts that are typically worn by surly students to make a statement include Nirvana, Pink Floyd and The Sex Pistols.
“I actually do quite like music but modern bands don’t have that mystique that comes around when a member dies in controversial circumstances around drugs or suicide,” continued Ryan. “If Ricky Wilson from The Kaiser Chiefs was to turn around tomorrow morning and throw himself under a bus and was killed cause he thought he was God or was on heroin, then you can bet your arse I’ll be wearing a Kaiser Chiefs t-shirt by lunchtime.”
“But unfortunately for everyone, Ricky Wilson is still very much alive,” he concluded.
This is a pretty bullshit argument. Top notch journalism. This is up there with the likes of Buzzfeed.
One, Buzzfeed actually does some good reporting from time to time. Two, this is obviously a joke, there was no study.
Thank you for not using the word “satire” to describe this article.
Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched. This is most definitely satire. If you’re having trouble figuring out why, the definition is readily available.
Making something up for humorous effect is not the definition of satire. There’s more to it than that.
If you don’t understand that, there’s plenty of English classes available. You could take one.
I can be snarky, too.
Fruit of the Loom is just jealous because the Ramones preferred Hanes.
I’m an actual Ramones fan and I still have a few t-shirts. They’re really old now. I get the point of this. When they were around I was always proselytizing and people said, “What’s that noise?” Now kids like the design. To be fair, Joey would be pleased.
I saw the Ramones more than 25 times over the years and I had shirts from lots of the tours. Not sure who these people were asking…
This entire website is satire so they didn’t actually ask anyone and there was no study
I own every album,3 copies of the film rock and roll high school and was the only kid in my high school who listened to them. I have 6 shirts. I graduated in 85. So the study is bullshit.
What study? This is satire.
There’s a new study that says anyone with 6 shirts of the same band is a tool.
Ironically, they probably would love “I Wanna be Sedated,” even though they’ve never heard it. And yes, I know that this is satirical.
Yes we all have And when coming to Sex Pistols Ive got a t-shirt as a kid before listen to them, that made me bought Never Mind The Bollocks and realise that it was this great music called punkrock, which made me pick up that Ramones existed 🙂
Why would you buy a shirt of a b and you had never heard. seems odd way to do things
Maybe the shirt looked nice?
I was 11 y o and it was a cool t-shirt 🙂
they would be wrong wouldn’t they. I wore mine still do and I’m not only an actual fan but have seen them live In person many many times and have met them too
I think this is a satirical article 😉
Learn all about the Ramones in the book;
“ON THE ROAD WITH THE RAMONES”.
Throughout the remarkable twenty-two-year career of the Ramones the seminal punk rock band, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famers, Grammy & MTV’s Lifetime Achievement Award winners and inductees into The Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry, Monte A. Melnick saw it all. He was the band’s tour manager from their 1974 CBGB debut to their final show in 1996. Now, in this NEW UPDATED EDITION he tells his story. Full of insider perspectives and exclusive interviews and packed with over 250 personal color photos and images; this is a must-have for all fans of the Ramones.
I realize this is satire, but if they were to substitute Joy Division for Ramones, then it would be true
So glad I saw the ramones a couple times as a kid
Although this is intended for satire, my niece who is 12 has a Ramone’s t-shirt and, after I told her how impressed I was with her musical taste, admitted she didn’t know anything about the band. I’m pretty sure this is Target’s fault.
Wow. Lame jaded hipsters writing articles poking fun at lame jaded hipsters. Is like an Mc Escher drawing come to life.
hipsters? ramones?
kaiser who?
That’s funny! I wear my Ramones t-shirt. And I am a fan. I think you might want to do a little bit more research. Because I’m calling bullshit!
Speaking of research to be done, did you notice that this is a satire website?
hehe, it’s just awesome to read some replies 🙂
And who is to blame for that? The Ramone’s for their “edgy” cookie-cutter pop-market image. In a way I appreciate the people wearing the t-shirt more than the fans who take themselves to be ‘The real ones’ … claiming to hold some authentic position. Keep up the good work with these objective social inquires. let science lead the way and keep us relevant.
The Ramones were just ripping off Green Day and blink-182 anyway.
oh look at the rage against the SPOOF machine. 😛
don’t anyone read the “about” link on sites these days?
Saw em 5 times, never got a shirt.
Congratulations, Wundergroundmusic. This news has also been published by Helsingin Sanomat, the largest newspaper in Finland. Seems that you’ve become a serious rival for The Onion and RT as one of the world’s most trustworthy news sources.
You guys should listen to GOOD punk rock like Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy or the Isley Brothers.
ahhh, so all the comment son here have to be satirical as well.
