With the recent onslaught of young children eschewing traditional musical instruments in favor of more easily accessible electronic alternatives, Pioneer DJ announced today the release of their new flagship player, the Pioneer CDJ-8000.
The new device is Pioneer’s attempt at capturing the ever-growing market of young musicians and has been labeled “groundbreaking” by Pioneer’s stringent tech testing team.
The crux of the update rests upon Pioneer’s new 13-foot-wide jog wheel technology, which allows the CDJ-8000 to be easily shared and maneuvered by multiple children at once. CD, DVD and SD memory card support comes standard as usual, but the key point that is likely to pique young DJs’ interest is the new, larger jog wheel, and its ability to spin around wildly at entertaining speeds.
“We’ve redesigned the player as we know it,” stated David Norwick, Head of Product Development for Pioneer DJ. “The new CDJ-8000 is the perfect DJ solution for any club, party, or playground. So we’re hoping that it will suit everyone, whether it be the most underground DJ’s playing to a discerning crowd at a classic techno venue right through to EDM DJs, like Steve Aoki, playing to a crowd of meat head morons who’ll most likely get more entertainment out of spinning on the jog wheels than listening to the music.”
Also coming in for an upgrade is Pioneer’s slightly more cost-effective CDJ-7000 model. The CDJ-7000 picks up the same Jog Wheel technology outlined above, but will not offer spill-protection from liquids such as apple juice and milk. Traditional feature differences between the two lines such as looping and memory card facilities also remain intact.
“The CDJ-7000 will definitely suit the underground scene better,” continued Norwick. “They’re definitely less like to have cake, champagne, feces or bottles of piss thrown at them from angry members of the crowd.”
The Pioneer CDJ-8000 will be available starting in January 2016 (select retailers) at a suggested retail price of $1999.
