London based electronic music producer and world’s tallest DJ (™), Skream, is set to sleep before sundown for the first time ever at this year’s Secret Solstice festival in Reykjavik, Iceland, held between the 19th and 21st June.
Secret Solstice, which takes place during the summer solstice weekend, offers ticket holders, and artists alike, the unique opportunity to party in the sunshine for three entire days at a time of year when the sun never sets on Iceland’s capital.
“I’ve got a kind of unwritten rule that I never sleep before the sun goes down,” explained Skream in an exclusive interview with Wunderground, “but I think I’m going to have to break that rule for the first time ever at Secret Solstice festival.”
“I can’t guarantee that I never slept before sundown in the first two or three years of my life,” continued Skream, real name Oliver Jones, “but if I did it was probably because I had been bold and sent to bed early or because my mum put a nip of whiskey in my bottle. There’s no way I would have done it on my own accord. I don’t even nap mate, it’s a waste of time. Init?”
“It’s going to be hard to do but I’ll have to do it, I can party with the best of them, but three days straight, I don’t think I can hack that anymore,” he disappointedly admitted. “I’m not twenty one, or Ricardo Villalobos, so at some point over the three days, probably on the last night, I’ll most likely fall asleep but I definitely won’t enjoy it.”
Sources within the Secret Solstice camp have revealed that Skream has asked for a number of strange items on his rider for the festival.
“It’s definitely one of the most unusual riders we’ve ever seen here at the festival,” claimed spokesperson Arnar Ólafursson. “Like really unusual. He asked for an intravenous drip containing a saline solution of Red Bull and coffee and that’s not even the weirdest thing on it.”
“He also requested to be housed in a twenty foot by twenty foot cardboard box lined with blackout material,” continued Arnar. “I mean, what even comes in a cardboard box that big? We offered him a five star hotel but he was very insistent, we’ve had to order the box custom made from Denmark.”
According to Skream’s management, the DJ is planning on returning to Iceland during the winter solstice, where he will play a one off unique “northern lights’ show and stay up for three days straight during non stop darkness to “balance things out” after sleeping at Secret Solstice.
