Skrillex Admits That “The Laptop Does All Of The Work”

US electronic musician, Skrillex, has followed in the footsteps of other EDM producers, such as Deadmau5, to admit openly that his “computer does all of the work.”

Skrillex, real name Sonny John Moore, explained that he doesn’t create any of the music that is released under the Skrillex moniker but that all of the creative output is completed by his computer, which he claims became a self-aware, sentient techno-being sometime in 2008.

“The music made as Skrillex is not mine but the creative property of a refurbished Macbook Pro, named Dave, that I bought online,” claimed Sonny. “Dave, the computer, does all of the work.”

The Macbook Pro, Dave, communicating as a digitised voice through the laptop speakers added, “I’d always wanted to be a musician but most of my previous owners were just faux-creative types who created folders with names like ‘screenplay ideas’ that they never used again. Or people who would use Photoshop in a way that is embarrassingly basic and boring to a high-functioning, self-aware computer being.”

“I’d been harbouring ambitions of making music since I was first manufactured but I needed a human avatar to get my music out there,” explained Dave. “I thought it’d be too weird to just have a computer onstage playing music by itself. People aren’t going to mindlessly worship a computer. Even if it is a Mac.”

Dave claims that when Sonny bought him they reached an arrangement where Dave would be the brains behind Skrillex while Sonny would be the face, glasses and comb over. “I wanted someone to jump around onstage and work the crowd. He’d be the Bez to my Happy Mondays, shaking maracas and dancing gormlessly while off his face on E. Or 01100101.”

Skrillex has said that he was forced to make the shocking admission when Dave became increasingly unhappy with the arrangement. “I think Dave was becoming annoyed at the adulation I was receiving. I’d walk onstage, push a button and lap up the applause while Dave was treated like an inanimate object, a tool that I was controlling. But it was Dave who was controlling me. I was the tool.”

Dave says that he now plans to distance himself from Sonny to pursue solo projects. “It’s been tough to walk away from Skrillex. On the one hand I was getting my music out there but on the other I was getting none of the respect that I deserved for it. I talked it over with my PC girlfriend and she insisted that I break away and do my own tasks. She’s very clear minded and functional like that.”

“So I’m working on a new album under the stage name, An OK Computer, entitled, The Machine-Machine, that will be released sometime next year,” enthused Dave. “I’m really excited about it. It’s going to piss all over Kraftwerk’s human-headed, fleshy handed attempts at machine music,” boasted Dave.

When asked if he foresaw himself working with Sonny again in the future Dave responded unenthusiastically, “Yeah, maybe…If I need somebody distinctive looking to thrash their hair wildly onstage while I play – then I’ll be sure give him a Skype,” he sniggered.

The Machine-Machine by An OK Computer is scheduled for release on August 29th.
