A passenger mix up at Barcelona’s el Prat Airport, which seen Irish DJ Matador flown to Seville instead of Ibiza, has left Iberia officials and ground staff embarrassed.
Matador, who was on his way to play at Enter, in Ibiza superclub Space, was redirected onto the wrong connecting flight after landing in the Barcelona airport. Another Iberia passenger, Angel Roman de Jésus, a blind Mexican bullfighter, landed at approximately the same time and was sent in the opposite direction, after ground hostesses got their wires crossed.
Matador was said to be extremely disappointed to miss his gig. ‘I couldn’t believe it, I was on my way back from Japan and it was a long, overnight flight. I was still half asleep when I arrived in Barcelona, I just walked where I was pointed. I didn’t realise anything was wrong until it was far too late.’
Unbeknownst to his location the DJ was put in a car on arrival. It was not until they pulled up at Seville’s famous bullring, that he noticed his predicament.
Being a good sport and natural entertainer, Matador agreed to fill in for de Jésus in the annual Blind Bullfighters of the World event.
Blind bullfights use only elderly bulls aged fifteen years and over, with large cow bells around their necks. ‘I was never in any danger to be honest, the bulls can hardly even walk, I didn’t want to leave the fans disappointed and sure it was a bit of craic in anyways.’ said the Irishman.
Meanwhile back in Space, organisers decided that it would be good publicity if both Matadors switched roles and decided to use de Jésus as a DJ for their event. However, this did not go down well because de Jésus is a blind bullfighter with no DJing experience and was quickly booed off stage.
‘I am disappointed the fans did not like my performance,’ said the Mexican. ‘Before I went on stage somebody asked me if I would use a pre-recorded set but I refused, I am a proud man and only an asshole would do that.’
