Europe’s flagship EDM festival, Tomorrowland, have announced that they will be hosting a “pre recorded mix only stage” at this summer’s event.
The news has been well received by EDM DJs such as Steve Aoki, David Guetta and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, who are seen as the pioneers of the pre recorded mix.
Tomorrowland spokesperson Anita Micks spoke to Wunderground earlier, “This year we’ve decided to host the world’s first ever pre recorded mix only stage. Well, it’s not really the world’s first, it’ll just be the first time that anyone has actually admitted it.”
“Obviously we won’t be calling it the ‘Pre Recorded Mix Stage’,” revealed Ms. Micks. “It’ll be called the Main Stage, the same as it is every other year, we just don’t want the DJs to have to go out and pretend to mix anymore.”
“It’s 2016, surely the stigma of using a pre recorded mix is long gone by now and without having to pretend to use the mixer the DJs will have way more time to entertain the crowd by talking on the mic, doing sit downs, jumping up and down on tables and throwing stuff at them.”
World class cake flinger Steve Aoki also spoke to Wunderground, “It’s awesome news! I really love being a DJ but the only downside to the job is having to pretend to be a DJ.”
“The equipment is so complicated,” continued Aoki, best known for his hatred of people in wheelchairs. “If you press one wrong button or twist one wrong knob you can ruin the whole mix so it’ll be nice not to have to worry about that.”
“My only apprehension is that I’ll get bored on the stage,” revealed Aoki. “Usually, when I’m doing fake mixing, I pretend that I’m flying a spaceship and the mixer and the CDJs are its controls, but if I don’t have to do that I’ll have to find other ways to fill the time. I guess I’ll just have to come up with some other corny gimmicks.”
According to Tomorroland sources, demand for slots on the pre recorded mix stage is so high that only DJs in the top twenty of the DJ Mag Top 100 DJs poll will feature on the line up.
