Ravers “Going Wild” In Support DJ’s Imagination

An up and coming DJ reported having the “best set” of his life at a local nightclub when during his “not too banging support set” he reportedly had the crowd “going absolutely fucking ape shit”.

Support DJ, James Lawlor, told Wunderground that he’d played several support gigs at various clubs around the city, but that “this one was easily the best” and that “it was unbelievable, I felt like I was dreaming”.

“They were eating out of the palm of my hand, it was totally bonkers, guys had their tops off, girls were twirling bras above their heads,” he continued. “And the applause was probably the loudest I’ve ever experienced both as a performer and clubber.”

“I don’t know how the main headliner followed me if I’m honest,” offered James diplomatically. “Fair play to him for bowing to me, applauding and shaking my hands when he took over from me, that was a classy touch.”

“It was unfortunate for him though that the dance floor emptied immediately after I stepped down from the decks,” added James. “You could tell the crowd must have dispersed exactly as my set finished because when I came out from behind the decks there was only one or two people on the dancefloor and a few propping up the bar.”

Reports from witnesses indicate that James set kicked off at 11pm and was finished by 12am at which point “the place was still relatively empty” and that “you could hear the bar people taking orders”.

“The dancefloor didn’t really warm up til about 12.30,” explained promoter Barry Donald, “there were 3 or 4 mashed heads hanging around by the speakers, but other than that it was the typical audience for a warm up set.”

“James did an adequate job warming up, but he seemed to be slightly more into it than was warranted,” observed Barry. “It’s not often you see a support DJ bouncing on their toes with arms outstretched shouting at a non-existent crowd ‘do you fucking love it?’, it was very strange.”

Barry claims that he doesn’t know why James was behaving as he was as “some people were still finishing their food in the late restaurant we have at the front of the club” and that James was mostly playing “down-tempo house” by order of the management.

James however insists that the “place was going mental” and that he could barely hear himself over the noise of all the whistling and clapping but “that was probably just the sound of glasses clinking or someone dropping a pot,” suggested Barry.

Hoping for a headline slot at his next gig James concluded by saying that he’ll always remember that gig as it was the sort of gig “that every DJ dreams of” and one that he’ll remember for the rest of his life.

“It was just that sort of gig,” he added, “crowd responding to your every move, hands in the air, beach balls being thrown around people shouting ‘you’re a legend’ and reaching to grasp my hand. I won’t forget it.”
