Former Eastenders character, ‘Nasty’ Nick Cotton, is set for a spectacular comeback into public life as a deep house DJ.
Cotton, played by actor John Altman, was recently killed off as a character in the popular soap and BBC bosses have confirmed the Albert Square bad boy as the host of Deep Weekly, a brand new deep house show set for Friday nights on Radio 1.
BBC spokesperson, Matt Wilkinson, spoke to Wunderground about the rather unusual announcement, “We’re delighted to have Nick on board for what we’re predicting will be a very popular new Radio 1 show.”
“We wanted to create a show that would appeal to both young and old listeners and we thought that by taking a popular genre and using a recognisable TV personality as a host we’d have the perfect balance,” he explained.
“John was the obvious choice because he’s the only BBC personality over the age of thirty five who isn’t currently being investigated by the police over allegations of paedophilia,” claimed Mr. Wilkinson, “and because nobody really knows who John Altman is we decided it would be best off to have him present the show as Nick Cotton.”
“When you look at Nick’s character it’s clear he already possesses a lot of the qualities needed to be a successful DJ,” claimed the radio expert. “He’s arrogant, outspoken and a bit of a cunt, so in many ways he’s a perfect fit. He’s also been sporting the slicked back hairdo for years now, all he’ll need to do is shave the sides of his head to modernise his look a little bit. “
“We also think he’ll have a real connection with hipsters, who seem to have taken to deep house like Lindsay Lohan to the Betty Ford Centre,” remarked Wilkinson. “They have lots in common, they both wear clothes that look like they we’re stolen off a homeless person, they’re both a figure of hate amongst the general public and they’re both a constant let down to their mothers.”
