An EDM fan has been left in a severe state of shock after realising that Mexico City was not the EDM capital of the world.
Mark Francis (23), made the shocking discovery after making the journey from his home in Sacramento, California, to the Mexican capital after seeing that all of his favourite DJs shared the destination as the source of most of their likes on Facebook.
The young man recently spoke of his anguish, “I just don’t get it. Calvin Harris, Steve Aoki, Avicii, Hardwell, Skrillex and David Guetta all had Mexico City as their most popular places on Facebook but I didn’t find anything even remotely EDMey when I got there.”
“Those guys are like my favourite EDM dudes and I really thought Mexico City was going to be amazing,” claimed Mr. Francis. “I had images in my head of people dressed entirely in kandi jewellery, streets lit up with glow sticks and everyone being super cool to each other but all I got was a regular city. It was so disappointing!” he despondently continued.
“I spent four hours walking around asking people if they knew where I could find any EDM or where I could buy some Molly,” he explained, “I even put an ‘o’ on the end of every word so the locals could understand me but nobody knew what I was talking about and the only responses I got were ‘que?’ and people trying to sell me burritos or fireworks. Honestly I don’t even think Mexicans know what EDM is.”
“After listening to Avicii’s Levels on repeat until my iPod battery died I finally gave up hope of finding any EDM and made my way back to the bus station to go home,” he dejectedly admitted. “I think next time I want to go on an EDM road trip I’ll take the safe option and head to a festival.”
“I guess the only reasonable explanation is that there are two Mexico Cities and I went to the wrong one,” offered Mr. Francis. “Either that or all my favourite DJs are buying likes on Facebook to keep up with the fickleness and pageantry of the EDM industry. I guess we’ll never know.”
