An American submarine enthusiast has been left disappointed after making the Transatlantic journey to this year’s Sónar festival in Barcelona, Spain.
Peter Morrison, a retired maritime engineer and Vietnam War veteran from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, made the journey after mistaking the popular music festival for a smaller festival, called Sonar Fest, which celebrates underwater navigation systems and is held in Barcelona later this year.
Mr. Morrison explained his disappointment, “This is quite possibly the worst off shore trip I’ve ever taken and that includes two tours of duty in the Mekong Delta.”
“Honestly I’ve never seen anything like this so called “Sonar” festival, there wasn’t one single maritime exhibition in the whole god damn city, it’s a disgrace,” barked the ex-military man. “There were youngsters running around the place drugged up to their eyeballs and causing little or no trouble at all, just like the student strikes in Ohio 1970, only without the strong arm of the Nixon administration to keep the god damn hippies in line,” he added.
“I didn’t give up six years of my life, spent rotting in a Vietnamese jungle, so that the youth of today can live with the freedom to enjoy life and express themselves in anyway they see fit without any prejudice,” he stated. “No sir-ee bob, I gave up that time so that arms manufacturers could get rich and we could get one over those god damn Commies,” he shouted angrily.
“I tried to make the most of a bad situation by taking in some music while I was in the city,” he continued, “but there was nothing that consisted of anything more than “bang, bang, bang”, I may as well have been listening to god damn artillery strikes in the god damn jungle, at least if that was the case I wouldn’t have had to share the room with a crowd of stuck up youngsters with nancy-boy haircuts,” he concluded.
Mr. Morrison, whose family are heavily involved in dairy farming, is believed to have cancelled his trip to this year’s Creamfields festival and vowed “never to go foreign again” after his disappointment in Barcelona.
