Female DJs Not Just There To Look Sexy, Claims Shocking Research

In a groundbreaking study on the role of women in dance music it has been suggested that rather than just being sexy mannequins for men to ogle, female DJs are worthwhile based on their own merit and talent.

“This is shocking,” claimed one respondent to the study which was published in The Deep House Raver’s Manual – a bi-daily, fanzine set up by some shuffling fans and advising on the important issues in dance music like – which colour black vest to wear when DJing, how to be subtle about telling people you DJ and dancing like a spanner. “I’ve always suspected that there was more to female DJs than just hottie wank fodder for blokes but this study proves it.”

The study claims that female DJs deserve as much as respect as male DJs and that even though they’re soft and lovely, they can still “bang the fuck out of some harsh techno”.

“Well when you really think about it, they do the same thing as the guys,” commented one fan. “Except they’ve also got breasts.”

Some key phrases from the study that bust myths include “they’re not all failed pole dancers who are handed gigs based on their hotness” and that some of them even “practice for years, run labels and are better DJs than 90% of those who get more work”.

“I’ve seen them do all the things that their male counterparts do behind the decks but I never really respected it,” he continued, “and thought that in spite of them being successful, they were trading on their looks or the novelty that they were female. I guess I was wrong.”

The groundbreaking study was carried out by playing sets by some female DJs to blindfolded listeners and asking them to judge the mix and then indicate if they thought the mix was performed by a man or woman.

“It was very revealing, most thought that the mixes were by men and were surprised when they found out that a person who is feminine and has periods was actually mixing,” claimed a spokesperson for The Deep House Raver’s Manual. “Most believed that women couldn’t DJ without breaking their nails or playing Barbie Girl but they’re wrong.”

The study concluded that DJs such as Nina Kraviz, Tama Sumo, Heidi, Annie Mac, tINI and Maya Jane Coles have achieved massive worldwide success based on the quality of their DJing ability and not because they’re women.

“Those are the DJs we included in our sample,” concluded the spokesperson. “We did at one point include a mix by Paris Hilton but no-one who heard it was actually able to identify it as music – weirdly though they did all successfully identify that it was Paris mixing.”
