PR Expert Advises Struggling DJs To Be Surly & Needlessly Controversial To Get Noticed

DJs Acting the prick

Heavyweight EDM artist management guru, Hugh Mungus D., has come out with a daring new plan to rejuvenate the turbulent careers of his artists in an exclusive interview, urging all of his acts to publicly complain about anything and everything that goes on in their career.

“It doesn’t have to be a full on rant,” said Mungus D., “Even just a Twitter post will do, as long as they have some sort of whinge about how things have changed or not changed to suit their whims. It can’t hurt to mention something about deep house, too.”

“Normally we’d just get them to release some good music,” he offered, “but for these guys it’s simply not an option. They are still flogging off the same shit that was big for them 10 years ago, or even worse, trying to hop onto the trends that are on their way out. One of my guys told me he might use a dubstep breakdown in his new track. He was convinced it hadn’t been done before. Thankfully I talked him out of it.”

Hugh Mungus D. was unable to reveal to Wunderground any of the artists that worked under him due to his contractual obligations, but our sources confirmed that he was indeed the man behind a large number of chart topping EDM DJs and producers.

“There really is loads of shit to moan about that will eventually strike a chord with some of them (fans) and gain the sympathy vote if that’s all they can manage to garner,” he outlined. “They can talk about missed flights, only using vinyl, people using cameras at gigs, anything really, so long as it comes across as moany and entitled. People love that bad attitude, it’s why Paris Hilton is a star.”

“I’ve found a great way to draw attention to an acts is to have them call out other DJs on Twitter,” he elaborated. “It’s almost guaranteed to get an entire article written about it just from a little back and forth with some other sorry sod. I’ve even advised two of my clients to go at each others throats and its worked amazingly for them. I can’t remember the last time they put out any music, but their names are on lips and that’s what matters.”

“In fact, I’m pretty sure one client of mine has never even made a record or played anywhere of note, but he’s blown up recently because of his active Twitter presence and rants about having to pay entry for his +1 at every gig,” he added.

“Truth be told, this idea couldn’t have come to me at a better time for some of these blokes. You know what they say – adapt or die, and it sure seemed like some of my acts were getting their caskets ready. I’m hoping this move can at least buy them some time before they have to start playing weddings again.”
