According to reports from the countryside, a news reporter in the south of England has mistaken a festival campsite for a refugee camp.
Anne Burrows, who was reporting for a local TV station, made the hilarious blunder after being sent to the Devon countryside to cover the inaugural year of the Fairey Field Festival but, after finding a field full of “badly erected tents”, “dirty and malnourished people” and “shocking sanitary conditions”, presumed she was in a refugee camp.
“Looking back at it now, it was a really silly mistake to make,” admitted Burrows during an exclusive chat with Wunderground. “Although, in my defense, it was quite an easy mistake to make too. I mean have you seen young people these days, with their hoodies and beards? They can pretty easily be confused for ladies in Burkas and Muslim men so naturally I thought they were all Syrian. It could have happened to anyone.”
“Sure, I was told I was going to cover a festival but when you arrive on a location like that your mind just runs away from you,” continued Ms Burrows. “I presumed someone had made a mistake and sent me to a refugee camp. I just can’t understand why anyone would pay to sit in those conditions for a full weekend so it made sense in my head.”
Simon Travis, who was at the festival, claimed to see Ms Burrows attempt to interview a number of people who were heavily under the influence of drugs.
“Yeah, I was wondering about that fit bird walking around with a microphone, she looked well out of place,” explained Mr Travis. “I seen her trying to interview a couple of guys who were totally K’d off their nuts and talking absolute marbles, I can see why she might have thought they were speaking a foreign language and I suppose the muddy conditions was making it kinda hard to spot the pasty white English skin. It probably wasn’t a whole lot different to your average refugee camp.”
In related news, a radio presenter who was sent to cover a local dog show has been left looking foolish after she thought she was reporting from the Spice Girls’ reunion tour.
