“Decks Are For Life Not Just For Christmas” Campaign Receives Backing

It has been confirmed that the “Decks are for life, not just for Christmas” campaign has received some serious backing in recent weeks.

Based on the campaign “A dog is for life, not just for Christmas”, which prevents parents buying pets for their children, only to be cast aside in the New Year, leaving a bunch of unwanted animals in need of re-homing, a group of high profiled DJs are similarly worried about the number of CDJ’s, mixers, monitors and headphones which will end up “abandoned” or “disowned”.

“Last year there was a staggering amount of Pioneer equipment on eBay by the middle of January,” announced an annoyed John Digweed. “I’m all for people coming into the music scene but it has to be for the right reasons. Parents need to realise buying lots of expensive gear for a fifteen year old simply isn’t a wise move. It’s not only harsh on their own bank balance but totally unfair on the equipment itself, which just wants to be played.”

“I’ve seen some serious cases of abandonment over the years,” continued Digweed. “I’ve been in spare rooms and lofts all over the world only to see a load of un-setup and sometimes unopened DJ equipment. It’s devastating to know this goes on.”

Wunderground caught up with Judge Jules to ask what he hopes to achieve with this campaign, “We want to raise awareness,” he told us. “Obviously there are some cases in which people ask for DJ gear and utilise it for the rest of their life. However, far too many people give up at the first hurdle, when they realise they’re going to need to practice to stop themselves sounding shit.”

“All we ask is if you have any doubts, don’t buy anything. It’s not fair on the equipment.”
