Belgian elctronic duo, 2manydjs, have announced plans to open a vegan restaurant in their home town, Ghent.
Brothers David and Stephen Dewaele have made the decision to move their mixing from the DJ box to the kitchen after they won the Belgian equivalent of popular British television program Celebrity Masterchef.
They caught up with Wunderground to tell us about their new business venture, “It’s a really exciting time right now for David and I, we’ve only been cooking for about three years and we’re already chefs,” explained Simon.
“It all started when I was looking in the fridge one day back in 2010, I was really hungry and all we had to eat was a lot of cheese. Then it struck me! It was just like the feeling I get when making one of our Radio Soulwax mixes, I took a load of cheese, some of which really stank, and turned it into something beautiful,” continued David.
“It was amazing, you should have seen him cook, he was like Nigella Lawson on speed. Which is actually exactly the state she is in any time you’ve seen her on telly,” joked David while high fiving his brother for a joke well done. “Within fifteen minutes he’d turned all the cheese into a beautiful fondue, he didn’t even use a recipe or anything. He’s a natural,” he complementary added.
“I can’t believe how long it took us to discover that we had this talent,” commented David. “We’ve been mixing, cutting and slicing up records for years. Now we’re doing the same thing with food.”
“A really good track is made up of a lot of different ingredients – the same as a really good meal. If you use your imagination a Gui Boratto track is just like a beautiful truffle risotto or a Steve Aoki track is exactly the same as a shit sandwich washed down with a glass of piss.”
Producer of the show and mentor to the brothers, Giles Van der Fluff, also spoke of their new found talent, “Stephen and David really are extremely talented guys, easily the best celebrity chefs we’ve ever had on the show,” he stated. “What makes it even more impressive is that the dish they served in the final was a delicious mustard soup.”
“So not only did they win the competition but they also proved that 2manychefs do not spoil the broth,” he laughingly added.
The Ghent restaurant, set to be named I Love Tofu, is due to open in April next year.
