Disney have today announced plans for an EDM themed teen movie set for release in late 2014. The movie will be set using the same model as the hugely successful High School Musical.
Set in a suburb of LA the movie will tell the story of a goofy substitute teacher and part time DJ, played by DJ Mag‘s current number one DJ, Armin Van Buuren. The Dutch maestro will have his work cut out winning over his students and will face adversaries for their attention such as gang culture and sexuality.
Van Buuren’s class will see that he’s not like any teachers they’ve had before when he has to fill in for the angst ridden high school senior Chad Waddington, played by Skrillex, after he has to stand down as resident DJ on prom night.
Van Buuren, seen above explaining exactly what he would do to co-star, Selena Gomez, is said to be very excited about his transition to the big screen. ‘I’m delighted to be involved in this project, as soon as I seen the script I was sold, it had how much they would pay me written on the first page! The story is really deep, it shows how EDM is bringing people together and helping them overcome their problems and realise who they are.’
Van Buuren also retorted to questions about his lack of acting experience. ‘I don’t think it will be that hard for me, my character is a teacher but he’s also a DJ and I’ve been acting as a DJ my whole life. You don’t become DJ Mag’s number one DJ just by being good at mixing tunes, there’s a certain cabaret element involved too. Whether it’s pretending you like your fans or acting like you actually enjoy the crap you have to play, there’s so much acting involved’
