A man who accidentally wore a fitbit to a rave has set a new world record for steps taken in a single exercise session.
James Buckley claims he had been wearing his fitbit during an earlier gym session and simply “forgot to take it off” before heading to an illegal warehouse rave on Saturday night.
“I can be a bit forgetful when I’m excited,” James told us. “And I’m always excited about raves, that’s why I forgot to take the fitbit off on Saturday. I noticed I still had it on my arm while I was on my way but I thought it would be a bit of a laugh to leave it on and see how many steps I would take over the course of the rave, I definitely wasn’t expecting to set a world record.”
According to fitbit sources, Buckley, known locally as an enthusiastic dancer, took over two million steps during his eight-hour rave marathon, beating the previous record by more than six thousand percent.
“We’ve never seen anything like this with one of our products before,” claimed fitbit spokesperson Nina Walker. “We had to call the product in to make sure it wasn’t faulty, it wasn’t, each and every one of Mr Buckley’s steps were one hundred percent authentic, we’re pretty sure he was probably using performance, or mood, enhancing drugs when he took them but we’re not in the business of penalising people for that kind of thing.”
Reports indicate that Mr Buckley’s achievements may be set to revolutionise the fitness industry with a reported nine out of ten people said to enjoy raving more than the gym.
“To be honest with you, I only go to the gym so I can look good at raves,” revealed twenty-three-year-old Alison Jones. “I always thought you lost weight from raving due to the session, not the exercise, I’ll probably never go to the gym again.”
In related news, Fatboy Slim is believed to be in discussions with fitbit about a potential collaboration on a weight loss DVD called Eat, Sleep, Rave, Repeat.
