A man who recently played the decks for six hours at a house party has claimed that he is now technically a session musician.
According to witnesses, Alan Beardsley “saved the party” with some “alright tunes” when he took over DJing duties at approximately 5:30am on Saturday morning at a party in a housing estate on Dublin’s northside.
House owner Mick O’Hagan described the scene, “All the crew had been out in town on Friday night and I decided I’d bring everyone back to my house to keep the buzz going for a few more hours. The decks were set up but everyone was a bit worse for wear when we got in so we just stuck on a random Boiler Room set.”
“There wasn’t much craic happening and everyone was fading fast, that’s when Al stepped up to the plate and got on the decks,” confirmed Mr. O’Hagan. “He’s a total hero, as soon as he started playing the atmosphere lifted, he totally saved the party, him and the big bag of pills that arrived about half an hour earlier.”
Mr. Beardsley claimed that he was “just doing what any good session musician would have done” and that he felt that it was his duty as a DJ to play some music.
“I’m constantly reading the room,” explained Mr. Beardsley earlier. “Even when I’m not DJing. I could be standing in a lift with five or six complete strangers and all of a sudden Darude Sandstorm or Wankelmut My Head Is A Jungle will pop into my head and I’ll know that’s the tune that’ll really make things go off in the lift. Sometimes I’ll even start to sing the tune and give everyone’s spirits a lift, excuse the pun.”
“So when I’m at a session that has decks and I think the place could do with a few tunes I’ll always step up and lift the vibe,” continued Beardsley, a.k.a. DJ Beard. “That’s what I did on Saturday morning, people were fading bad and I remember thinking ‘not on my watch’ so I marched over to the CDJs and jumped straight in with a bit House Every Weekend and knocked the buzz straight out of the park.”
“That’s what I do, I’m a session musician,” he stated confidently. “Not in the classical sense, I’m not a guitarist who tours with a singer/songwriter or anything like that. Do I look like a hippy? Of course not. I’m just a DJ who plays at sessions.”
“I’m like some sort of musical superhero. Session Musician Man. Wherever there’s a session that needs a few tunes, Session Musician Man will be there – as long as it’s within a fifteen minute walk of his house.”
