A nightclub in Swindon, England, has recently advertised for a new resident DJ, insisting that only applicants with a degree in marketing will be considered for the role.
The job, which offers two one hour sets a week at a rate of fifty pound per set, also includes handling all of the club’s social media accounts, artist liaison, online marketing and toilet cleaning duties.
“It’s a great opportunity for someone to join our team,” claimed club manager Brian Scab. “We’ve had lots of interest in the job but, so far, we’ve not really had anyone who meets our criteria. Obviously, we want someone who has a marketing degree and two or three years experiencing in a digital marketing or PR role.”
“For some reason, we have a lot of relatively inexperienced DJs contacting us, it’s almost like they’re looking at this as a chance to make a big break,” continued Scab. “But what we’re actually looking for is an experienced DJ, with a good reputation and a large fan base and someone who’s willing to go the extra mile for the job, if that means cleaning piss or shit of the toilet walls or carrying a headliners bag, then so be it.”
Wunderground spoke to Marty Garricks, an eighteen year old DJ who applied for the job, “I still haven’t heard anything back but I’m fairly confident. The club’s a bit of a shit hole and the money is rubbish but it’s a foot in the door. I’ve watched a couple of YouTube videos about marketing so I’m fairly confident that I’d be able to bullshit my way through an interview, if I get one.”
At the time of going to press, Mr Scab has yet to hire a new resident DJ, despite having received over five hundred applications.
