A group of young festival goers have been turned away by Belgian authorities today after attempting to access the Tomorrowland festival arena almost two weeks before this year’s official opening.
After being detained and questioned by Belgian police on suspicion of trespassing onto the recreation ground where the festival is located, it has been revealed that the group of friends believed that the festival took place the day after booking their ticket.
“We booked our tickets yesterday,” said Alice, a girl who has history with taking titles literally – once believing that the C.S. Lewis classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was about her.
“All of us were bored, slightly stoned and searching for something fun to do this weekend when during a Youtube session spent watching and laughing at fat people falling over or cats sneezing we came across this Youtube video that started like a fairytale but turned into some crazy promotional video for this festival.”
“Sort of like Alice in Wonderland but with more drugs and scantily clad lost girls listening to EDM and less actual psychedelia, enchantment and actual lost girls,” she added.
Dan, another member of the group tried to justify their logic in arriving at completely the wrong time to the festival. “The festival is called Tomorrowland and we booked the ticket yesterday so it was only logical that we assumed the festival would be on today.”
Despite their confusing ordeal and wasted journey across Europe, Dan insists that he and his friends will be back in a couple of weeks to enjoy the festival when it actually begins.
“We’re mostly annoyed that we’re not the first people to hear about the festival,” continued Dan, “we thought this was going to be one of those spontaneous trips which we could discover before anyone else but apparently a few hundred thousand people have already been going to this every year.”
A spokesperson for Festival Republic has labelled this as an extreme case of festival keenness by saying: “It seems some people simply cannot wait any longer to gain entry into their beloved festivals. Scenes such as overnight camping by festival gates are common but for a group to arrive two weeks early is unheard of until now.”
Experts have claimed to be unsurprised by this story and have suggested the possibility that individuals with low levels of intelligence and an almost autistic adherence to taking what they read literally are consistently attracted to Tomorrowland because of the bland commercial EDM which soundtracks the majority of the festival.
