Producer’s Hipster Fans Desert Him For Having Too Many Soundcloud Followers

Bedroom DJ Karl Vernache has suffered a severe blow to his hopes of becoming a semi-famous reputable DJ by losing his collection of hipster fans after reaching five hundred followers on his Soundcloud page.

The fan base, which he worked tirelessly to attain by performing secret gigs in public toilets and releasing free copies of his LP on 10-part floppy disk, have boycotted the producer’s fan page and broken all ties with his music.

The Soundcloud page had operated on a modest following of 232 people until last Monday, when he released a fairly uninspiring mash-up of three songs which have all previously entered the Beatport chart.

The songs featured unintentionally directed music fans to Vernache’s page via Google search and his following nearly doubled within two days.

“I still cannot believe he allowed himself to become so popular,” says Mel, an ex-fan. “I thought he was there for people such as me who take weird pleasure in listing artists and producers to acquaintances who will definitely have never heard of them, and won’t bother listening to.”

Vernache was expected to perform a secret set later this weekend, reportedly out of the back of his Peugeot 206 in a Sainsbury’s car park, however he has been forced to cancel because attendance is expected to exceed 20 people.

In a statement on his Twitter page, the twenty-one-year-old said:

“Sorry the gig isn’t happening Saturday, can’t play if there’s gonna be too many people there to kill the vibe.”

Critics suspect this is a ploy to bring back his original underground following, however the artist’s boycotters insist that they will not be revisiting any of his work for at least another ten years, by which time it will become ironic enough to like again.

“Karl Vernache isn’t relevant to us anymore,” says another ex-fan, Tyler. “He had a shelf life, those three weeks were great before my girlfriend started listening to him. Now it’s time for us all to move on and for him to take up a residency at some dated clubnight in Shoreditch.”

Recent reports have confirmed that Vernache has also deleted his Youtube channel after the view count on his two videos reached one hundred. He is now set to release all further material on MiniDisc and the dark web in the hope that he can achieve the much coveted label of authenticity in a saturated scene of bedroom producers and laptop DJs.

      • Yea, I heard he closed dowin his mixcloud too. I don’t know, I was feeling the mash up one. It’s OK to get some cred and show the mainstream that the underground stays underground cause it wants to and not because it’s got no talent.
