Reports indicate today that the normally nonchalant hipsters are today hard at work trying to think of a new cool word to abbreviate and turn into a slang term.
“We like totes need some new hi-larious vocab dude,” iterated lifelong hipster Gav McGuinness. “I just totes don’t wanna deal with the fomo of like not having a new cool word.”
“It’s like #notokay that we’re reusing words that are just samsies to all other words,” he continued, removing his oversized pink shades for emphasis. “So we’re going to totes abbrev something amazeballs and uber cool. YOLO.”
Some of the suggestions that the hipster brigade have been making thus far have not connected in the way that they have wanted. “There’s a mutual of mine who keeps trying to make ‘fetch’ happen but she’s a povo skank so it’s just like super awks and not going to happen. LOL.”
Gav suggests that people take inspiration from wherever they can, citing typical hipster word creation sources as, ‘txt speak, Twitter jargon, shortening already existing slang words, calling things by an outdated obscure name, creating compound words and gibberish”.
Some of the most promising suggestions received thus far include, “soup kitchen” to describe something both “super” and “kitsch” like a povo but retro charity shop watch, or “gravy lame” to describe something both good and lame like Fast & The Furious 1 through 6.
If people want to join in the discussion for a the newest hipster slang word they can join in on Twitter by tagging @Wunderground_ie and using the #newhipsterword.
