London based DJ Seth Toxler has shocked the music industry by admitting that he regularly hires the service of a ghost writer to write all of his jokes.
Troxler, who has built a reputation as the joker of the electronic music circuit in recent years, made the admission during an exclusive interview with Wunderground earlier this week.
“Everybody’s talking about ghost writers these days, people think it’s a big shame to use them but you know what? I don’t give a fuck. I use them all the time, they write all of my jokes,” claimed Troxler. “Without those guys I’d be nothing more than a talented, hard working, trend setting DJ and producer. I owe a lot to ghost writers.”
“I don’t know why but people have just always kind of expected me to be funny,” continued the Michigan native. “It’s like I just walk up to people and say ‘Hey I’m Seth, I’m a DJ from Kalamazoo’ and they just start laughing and expect me to be hilarious. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to follow up an opening statement containing the word Kalamazoo with anything other than blowing a raspberry or a dick joke? It ain’t easy I’ll tell you that.”
“The truth of it is I’m not funny at all,” admitted Troxler with his head bowed. “Imagine Ferry Corsten talking in hushed, sincere tones about the AIDS epidemic and you’ll be imagining something similar to my style of joking. I didn’t want to let people down so I had no choice but to hire a ghost writer. I think they’ve done a pretty good job so far but I also feel that I’ve grown a lot as an artist and I don’t want people to think of me as a clown anymore.”
“That’s the reason I’m telling you all of this. From now on I’m going be more economics and current affairs and less catchy punchlines and wacky hair.”
Troxler has indicated that he plans to cut his ghost writer bill in half over the next twelve months and eventually phase all comedy out of his act and sign to Drumcode by early 2018.
